Video of Europa Uomo webinar now available

A Europa Uomo webinar, now available to view online, explores some of the psychological issues that can affect men with prostate cancer, particularly anxiety and depression.

The webinar centres around a presentation by clinical psychologist Tania Estapé, a Europa Uomo Board member and psycho-oncology coordinator at the Spanish cancer organisation FEFOC.

The EUPROMS study shows that nearly half of men say they are anxious or depressed to some extent, said Tania Estapé. Yet prostate cancer is under-represented compared to other cancers when psychological issues are discussed at conferences, she said.

She pointed to significant links with sexual dysfunction. Many men whose sexual function is affected by treatment feel they are “no longer men” and this leads to depression. Other factors such as being unable to work, children leaving home and feeling a burden to others are also important contributors.

“We must promote these problems so that they are taken into account,” she said.

The webinar is available to view below and on YouTube.
