We Run for Life – We Run for Prevention
Athens, 14 September 2026 – The 1st Prostate Cancer Race was successfully held on Saturday, 12 September 2026, at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Zografou Campus. The event, organised by Europa Uomo Hellas – Panhellenic Association for Prostate Cancer, was the first road race dedicated to raising awareness about prostate cancer prevention and early diagnosis.
Under the central message “We Run for Life – We Run for Prevention”, hundreds of runners took part in an event that highlighted, in a positive and inclusive way, the importance of prevention and early diagnosis, as well as the power of sport as a means of raising awareness and promoting social engagement.
The event was honoured by the presence of Haris Theoharis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Chatzigeorgiou, Rector of the National Technical University of Athens, and Tina Kafatsaki, Mayor of Zografou.
The programme of the 1st Prostate Cancer Race included an 8-kilometre road race as well as a 1,000-metre children’s race, offering both adult runners and children the opportunity to participate.
As part of the event, participants received the Prostate Cancer Prevention and Information Guide, developed under the scientific supervision of the Hellenic Urological Association (EOE). The guide provides clear and accessible information about prostate cancer, risk factors, early screening and diagnosis.
Following the event, the President of Europa Uomo Hellas, Dimitris Deligiannidis, stated:
“Today marks a very special moment for Europa Uomo Hellas, as it represents the successful completion of our first race dedicated to prostate cancer. Through this initiative, we sought to bring the message of awareness and early diagnosis closer to society in a positive and inclusive way.
We hope that the 1st Prostate Cancer Race will become the starting point of a lasting annual event, bringing even more people together each year around the message of prevention. Today’s participation gives us optimism and strength to continue our efforts with even greater commitment.
I would like to warmly thank the Rector and the Rectoral Authorities of NTUA for their trust and invaluable support, the Municipality of Zografou for its significant contribution to the organisation of the event, as well as all the volunteers and organisations whose support helped make this initiative a success.”
The event was held with the valuable support of the National Technical University of Athens and the Municipality of Zografou, and under the auspices of the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK), the Hellenic Urological Association (EOE), the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (EOPE) and the National Nurses Association of Greece (ESNE).
