European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day coalition sets agenda for action

A partnership of patient, scientific and political organisations, including Europa Uomo, will be calling on the EU to tackle early detection and awareness of prostate cancer at this year’s European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day (EPAD) event on 17th November.

The EPAD20 partners believe that early detection and awareness are areas where EU action “can pay real dividends and have value added”. This is in the light of the EU’s Beating Cancer Plan, published in February this year.

“We are calling on decision makers to ensure that these important issues will be addressed in order to save lives and improve the quality of life of patients,” said André Deschamps, Europa Uomo Chairman.

An EPAD event, organised by the partnership, will bring together key policymakers, scientific associations and European patient groups to review and discuss how to change the management of prostate cancer across Europe to provide a more holistic and personalised care for patients.

The virtual programme features high-level influencers from oncology, patient advocacy, politics and policy. Paolo Guglielmetti, a member of the European Commission’s Cancer taskforce, will give an update on the EU Cancer Plan.

EPAD aims to raise awareness and enhance knowledge of prostate cancer. Its partner organisations are the European Association of Urology, Europa Uomo, European Cancer Patient Coalition, Movember, European Alliance for Personalised Medicine, the trade association COCIR and the Challenge Cancer EU Parliamentary Intergroup.
