Survey on PSA testing widely covered in national media
An awareness campaign by the Croatian prostate patients’ organisation has had a significant national impact, with 82 media outlets providing coverage of prostate cancer and the importance of PSA testing over the month of May.
Central to the “All for Him” campaign by the Croatian Society of Prostate Cancer Patients (HDBRP) was a specially commissioned Ipsos survey, which found that 93% of people in Croatia had not heard of the PSA test and did not know what it was for. The society circulated the results and key messages about prostate cancer prevention to the media, and the result was widespread national and local coverage in print, on television, on radio and online.
The weekly newspaper, 7Dnevno, carried an interview with Velimir Korak, President of the HDBRP (pictured at this year’s Europa Uomo General Assembly in Helsinki), who shared his personal story.
Leading local and national radio and TV channels reported live from HDBRP’s public health event in Zagreb city centre, interviewing Velimir Korak and other people with experience of prostate cancer at the scene.
“The topic is still alive and spreading,” said Velimir Korak. The HDBRP was admitted as a full member of Europa Uomo at this year's General Assembly.
