Runners raise funds and awareness at Europa Uomo run
Participants from across the globe stepped out onto a Berlin racetrack on the morning of the ESMO Congress opening to raise money and awareness of prostate cancer.
They were taking part in Europa Uomo’s Step Out for Prostate Cancer initiative. Thanks to support from Bayer, the mere act of taking part triggered a donation to Europa Uomo’s work raising awareness of prostate cancer, and the importance of early detection, across Europe. Money was also raised through the entry fee and personal donations.
“It was a wonderful event, and heartfelt thanks are due to every one of the people who participated – whether they walked a lap or ran for kilometres,” said Erik Briers, Europa Uomo Chair, who was there with other Board members providing information about prostate cancer with the aid of a giant prostate gland in the awareness tent at the track.
"It was a great atmosphere, and despite the early hour there was lots of energy. Later on the stadium was bathed in sunlight."
Everyone who took part got a commemorative medal - displayed by Europa Uomo Board members Igor Antauer, Marko Koivuneva, Erik Briers and Kees Vos in front of a giant prostate on display at the event (pictured).

You didn’t have to be at our Berlin event to raise money in the Step Out for Prostate Cancer campaign initiative. Anyone can raise money and make a contribution to prostate cancer awareness by running or walking when they like, and as far as they can, in our "virtual" run.
All you have to do is register and then let us know how far you have run/walked via our website. For registration and more information, go to our Step Out for Prostate Cancer page.
