Europa Uomo representatives had a significant presence at Europe’s biggest cancer congress

Europa Uomo representatives made their presence known at the ESMO Congress in Berlin, making key contributions to the patient advocacy track and promoting prostate cancer awareness and early detection.

Addressing a packed auditorium at the quality of life session of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress, Europa Uomo Chair Erik Briers presented results from Europa Uomo’s two EUPROMS quality of life studies, focusing in particular on sexual problems associated with treatment. André Deschamps presented results from the EU-PROPER study, examining how partners of men with prostate cancer are affected by the disease.

Meanwhile Lionne Venderbos from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Europa Uomo’s research collaborator, presented findings from Europa Uomo’s most recent study – EU-PRESS – examining experiences of shared decision making in prostate cancer.

“Higher levels of perceived shared decision-making are related to better quality of life and lower levels of decision regret after treatment for prostate cancer,” she concluded.

In the exhibition area, Europa Uomo Board members were promoting the Step Out for Prostate Cancer run and walk, which aims to raise prostate cancer awareness.
