Europa Uomo launches patient-friendly version of EU-ProPER study results
Europa Uomo has published a new booklet about the impact that prostate cancer has on the quality of life of partners, as well as patients. It shows how social, sexual and family life are all affected after a diagnosis of prostate cancer, and how partners feel the full burden.
The booklet, which is available for download as a pdf, is based around the findings of Europa Uomo’s EU-ProPER (Europa Uomo Prostate Cancer Partners in Europe Research) study.
The study, based on 1135 survey responses, showed that partners of prostate cancer patients often experience mental ill health, loneliness and frustration. A third of partners said that prostate cancer had an effect on their social and family life, and three in four said their sex life had deteriorated.
The new booklet presents findings in an accessible way for patients and patient organisations, with graphics, charts and illustrations.
“The findings present a valuable picture of the issues being faced by those close to men with prostate cancer across Europe and beyond,” says Europa Uomo’s André Deschamps, who coordinated the study.
“Finding out about the burdens on partners helps define what types of support could have a significant impact on their lives after prostate cancer has been diagnosed. It could help define unmet needs and provide an agenda for action.”
