PRAISE-U project for prostate cancer builds on European progress in breast cancer screening

Europa Uomo is taking part in a new EU-wide project to reduce prostate cancer mortality through smart early detection, launched this month.

The EU-funded PRAISE-U initiative will work to encourage early diagnosis of prostate cancer through customised and risk-based screening programmes. The goal is to align protocols and guidelines across EU Member States, and collect data, so that prostate cancer morbidity and mortality can be reduced.

The European Association of Urology will administer the project, working in partnership with a network of consortium members including experts on prostate cancer and decision-making, hospitals, medical societies, patient advocates and national authorities. Europa Uomo is an associate partner and will be part of the “knowledge hub” assessing the current state of play and unmet need.

“We will be the voice of prostate cancer patients and make sure that we keep the consortium focused on early detection and screening with a risk-based approach,” said Europa Uomo Vice Chairman Erik Briers.

The EU has already provided guidance on screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer. The PRAISE-U consortium aims to build on the knowledge and tools from these other cancer indications and expand them to prostate cancer.

The project is officially launched at an open broadcast on 25th April. Registration is required.
