New hope for immunotherapy

Researchers in Arizona have identified a way to sensitise prostate tumours to immune checkpoint inhibitors. They were able to reduce cancer tumour growth in laboratory and animal models of prostate cancer by inhibiting the protein inhitor PIM1 kinetase in conjunction with an immune checkpoint inhibitor. PIM inhibitors are actively being tested to combat cancer and other diseases. The work may lead to a new US clinical trial.

Prostate cancer screening evolving in Europe

The PRAISE-U Project, which is led by the EAU, aims to provide concrete evidence on a risk-stratified approach to the early detection of prostate cancer outside a trial setting. An article in European Urology Today explains how it is currently coordinating five population-based prostate cancer screening pilots in four different European Member States. PRAISE-U is closely working with the EUCanScreen initiative, which started last year. Within EUCanScreen, at least 10 more Member States will start population-based prostate cancer screening pilot studies.

Update of EAU Guidelines

A full version of the guidelines 2025 can be found here.

Finding the best way to screen men
