Effectiveness of two-week radiotherapy for prostate cancer
Radiotherapy is a standard prostate cancer treatment option that offers outcomes comparable to surgery, particularly for localised disease. However, traditional radiotherapy schedules typically span several weeks, which can be burdensome for patients and put pressure on healthcare structures and radiotherapy capacity.
A recent Swedish study confirms that delivering precision radiotherapy over just two and a half weeks is equally successful as the standard eight-week approach. A decade after treatment, both options produced similar disease control rates and survival, says the study, first presented at this year’s congress of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology.
